IMO, the 15V diode check was the weak point of the 121GW's electronic hardware design. With this one feature removed, it would have been much easier to make the 121GW very robust. Even if they addressed this, the countless switch contact designs, shims, heavy plastic wear in the switch area, cracked plastics on the input connectors, cracked plastics with the the card reader, lettering that is easily removed with common solvent, battery springs that pop out, suggests they don't have a good idea about the mechanical side.
