Trying to get Tektronix TDS8000B OS install discs
« on: April 30, 2016, 03:36:32 am »
So I picked up a TDS8000B at an auction a while back, but didn't realize that it came without a hard drive. I tried installing just a plain Windows 2000 OS and download the application firmware from the Tek website, but couldn't get that to work. When I tried to start the application software, it complained of missing files. Does anyone happen to have a copy of the OS restore discs and application firmware, ideally the XP version?

I don't think there are XP discs for the TDS/CSA8kB Series, if my memory serves me right then the latest variant ran Windows 2000 and the older variant ran Windows 98SE. I believe there also have been some hardware differences within the TDS/CSA8kB scopes (i.e. a different mainboard required for Windows 2000 to work).

Depending how old your unit is your only option might be Windows 98 SE.

I have read that some were upgraded to Windows XP if they were the TDS8000B/CSA8000B or had the upgraded CPU and memory, but they are probably rare. I'd even be happy with Win98SE, but it just seems like XP might be easier and support more current software. Anything would be better than nothing though.

Finally found some discs on eBay that I bought for around $300, so now my scope works! :D I read somewhere that this scope can do S-parameter measurements but I think you have to have the Tektronix iConnect software, which I can't find anywhere. So much potential wasted!

Can you upload images to Tin's website? https://doc.xdevs.com/contact/
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.
