What budget Multimeter (UK)
« on: January 30, 2014, 02:24:22 pm »
Hello Guys, Iv seen the EEVblog #91 - $50 Multimeter Shootout and had a hunt though the forum as this is quite a common topic!

But, I purchased the Extech EX330 based on the review (turned out I got a faulty meter ) and I cant get the Amprobe AM220 (seems to be on back order everywhere).

I really need a DMM ASAP, so was wondering If I could get some advice on what one to buy with a sub £50 budget that I can find easily (Rapid/RS/CPC/) here in the UK.

After having trouble with the Extech EX330 I would much rather have something with a warranty or at least inside calibration period.

Is the £40 Fluke 101 good bang for buck? Seems too cheap for a fluke!

The Fluke 101 is great, but make sure the restricted feature set will cover your intended usage.

only going to be using it for a couple of weeks until my replacement Extech come through, then it will probably be use as a back up or something I can carry in my cosmopolitan man bag!

All a really need it for at the moment is testing some old resistors/cap, continuity testing and nothing over 240v......will have to hunt around for more info on the 101, 106, 107 as they are seem to be in the same price range.

Forget the 106, it lacks too many features. The larger 107 is fine, adding AC/DC current measurement and a backlight, but is usually more expensive. The 101 is all you really need until the Extech makes an apparition. Be careful though, I suspect you will use it more often than the EX330! ;)
