Tektronix TDS3052 (TDS3000 Series) PSU Replacment
« on: February 05, 2021, 11:58:30 am »
I have just acquired a Tektronix TDS3052 scope which was dead on arrival.  Following the Tektronix Service Manual Troubleshooting section, I have narrowed the fault down to the 15V Power Supply.  This is an Artesyn NAN40-7615-01.  These are now obsolete.  The Artesyn LPS44 PSU would appear to be a suitable replacement, but wondered if anyone has used one of these with successful results?

Thanks in anticipation

Paul

Hi Paul
I have a TDS3014 which had a NAN40-7615 that failed.
I replaced it successfully with an NFS40-7615J, RS order no. 629-5636.

Thanks BR.  I've just ordered one, so will report back when fitted.

A defective power board is not unusual for the TDS3000 series. I had the same fault. User Jay_Diddy_B reengineered the basic parts of the power board and gave some thermal images:

https://www.eevblog.com/forum/repair/a-tektronix-tds3014b-with-two-strange-issues/

In some cases, so for me, two of the snubber resistors are the reason for the fault. They overheat and one of them burn. It's easy to check and replace them, because they are mounted in THT.

Maybe you can save the 40 pounds for a replacement board and buy two 150 Ohm resistors instead.

Thanks.  I checked both sets of series paired resistors, and all was good.

Fitted the new NFS40-7615J (RS order no. 629-5636).  Scope now fully working!!  Be careful if you do this mod though.  The Live and Neutral pins of the board have been swapped over, so I had to swap the two wires of the mains input cable to the PSU over (easy job, no soldering required).  Just as well I checked!!
