What is the maximum number of colors displayed on the Tektronix TDS 2000 series?

(1/1)

Joebeazelman:
I just picked up a TDS 2024 oscilloscope and overall it's been excellent. However, the number of colors displayed seems limited to around 8-colors at a time. Is this normal? I couldn't find anything online or in the specs. I figure reducing the color depth increases the screen's bandwidth while also decreasing the video memory's size. I gather it's a reasonable tradeoff since plotting waveforms with more than a few colors is superfluous. What's the maximum number of colors the TDS 2000 is capable of?

On another note, there's also a TDS 1000C/2000C series which appears to be the same scopes except they're equipped with a color LCD. I assumed the C suffix denoted a color display, but color displays are standard in the 2000 series.

TinLethax:
Since I'm currently working on the alternative LCD replacement (FPGA adapter) for the TDS1000/TDS2000 (Non B/C version). I think I can answer your question.

It's normal for the TDS2000 series scope to have only 7 (+1 for black) pixel colors. They use display made by Kyocera (part number KCS057QV1AJ to be exact) that wasn't capable of gray-scaling the sub-pixel.
