Looking for a small multimeter to fit inside a case
I am looking at the longest dimension
I came across this one at 5.1 inches long :
Amprobe DM78C

This one at 4.6 inch

Any smaller ones out there?
Min requirements measure volts, amps, ohms I do not care about Cat rating. The only thing I care about is size, not quality. Digital only
thanks

Since you only care about size, consider this analog meter: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Electric-AC-DC-OHM-Voltmeter-Ammeter-Multimeter-Multi-Tester-MF-110A-/271630865527 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Electric-AC-DC-OHM-Voltmeter-Ammeter-Multimeter-Multi-Tester-MF-110A-/271630865527)
It's only 90mm.

95mm = 3.74 inch

I've always been tempted to design a dmm the size of 3 credit cards stacked on top. So it could fit in your wallet easy. It would have probes that slide inside.
Something like 3 sheets of 0.5mm pcb with the inner one being just a frame.
Components would be smt on inner layers and display would be matrx of reversemount leds.
It would be fun to design something like that. It could never be mains rated though

Uni-T UT20B 95 mm

That's the smallest DMM I found too. It uses an A23, 12V battery, highly unusual in that most of these pocket DMMs use coin or button cells and run at 3V.

I remember seeing this meter at my local electronics store about 3 years ago. They wanted $20 CDN MSRP for it. I laughed! :-DD
I found two internal pcb pictures.

The 12v battery is a surprise but I am going to hard wire in the meter so this is not a deal breaker.
A 34 page manual on this cheap meter :-+

Also this has a square wave output test that I cannot figure out. Will make a new post on this.

If money is no object, I think this wins the contest:

I too am wondering how hard it would be to build a really small meter with retractable leads that wouldn't do high voltage nor high current

Honorable Mention?
89 x 47 x 129 mm / 3.5 x 1.9 x 5.1 inch

Maybe Allosun EM3082... similar to an old Radio Shack one from 30 years ago.

I've got a couple of these lying around the house, pretty handy for simple stuff. They do voltage, resistance and diode (voltage drop) testing:

I think this is a similar meter but it's of current manufacture. Only capable of 200mA current measurement unless you use a clamp:
