What sort of oscillator inside DG1022Z?
« on: March 10, 2019, 08:26:49 am »
I have a Rigol DG1022Z function generator and it’s quite good enough for everything I do. What I want to know is, what sort of frequency reference does it have. TXCO? Something fancier? Also, has someone done a teardown on one of these?

Short pieces, high value, small period, huge amount, long delay.

I reckon it's a TCXO and it's very stable. I had mine driving my two OCXO equipped Racal counters and it didn't budge even 0.1Hz in over 3 hours.

Do you need better stability or better phase noise?

The phase noise of DDS function generators tends to be very poor simply because it is considered unimportant in most applications which would use a function generator so steps are not taken to minimize it.  Stability only depends on the reference oscillator.

Phase noise is exceptionally good on the DG1000Z series.

I’d assume stability for the OP.

Neither.
I’m saying it’s okay as it it.
Just wanting to know what makes it tick, literally. 🙂
