When will Rigol follow Siglent upgrade discount?
« on: December 18, 2014, 10:40:18 pm »
Siglent looks like they have a very good product when it comes to oscilloscopes.  Now I see they are offering this huge "automatic upgrade to the next level" upgrade discount if you buy a Siglent.  OK this is good stuff I think; how does this work?   For us Rigol fans do you think that Rigol will now shortly follow suit and off a similar upgrade discount?

Or, if they (Rigol) doesn't match the auto upgrade discount, then, will Siglent eat their lunch with this pre-emptive strike?  I dunno, but it seems brilliant on Siglent's part since their product seems faster spec to begin with.  Looks like they'll be grabbing market share fast.

This mentioned upgrade offer applies only to the Siglent SDS2000 series

Additional to the offered upgrade you can also enter a draw with your Siglent product review, for either a free 100 MHz DSO or 25 MHz AWG.

Unless one compares "apples with apples" (comparable models) there are sufficient differences between their ranges to ensure a following for each.

It's called competition and it's healthy.
Without such we would be paying crazy money for scopes as was the case decades ago.

I've read the specs on the Siglent SDS2000 and compared it to the Rigol DS2000 series.  With that in mind, it seems very much an apples to apples comparison.  Seems like Rigol has fans (as in enthusiastic users) and the Siglent seems to have higher speed and a HUGE discount.  At this point I'm wondering if Rigol is gonna grab hold of the rope and compete or let the other guys gain market share because a Rigol is actually that much better or because they miscalculated and they think they're underestimating the competition.  It's worth the time to compare the apples to apples performance and come up with a collective wisdom assessment.

I think Siglent threw down the glove of competition with their discount scheme.  Will or does Rigol need to follow suit?

I've read the specs on the Siglent SDS2000 and compared it to the Rigol DS2000 series.  With that in mind, it seems very squarely apples to apples.  Only, like Tate's in my post the Rigol has fans and the Siglent seems to have higher speed and a HUGE discount.  At this point I'm wondering if Rigol is gonna grab hold of the rope and complete or let the other guys gain market share because a Rigol is actually that muh better or because they miscalculated and they think their all that.  It's worth the time to compare the plea to apples performance and come up with a collective wisdom assessment.
You did not make it clear in your first post which models you were comparing.
For lots more info on the models you state you need check Marmad's review:

why should we bother of any free upgrades from Rigol?
We all upgraded our Rigol DS1xxx / DS2xxx / DS4xxx / DSA815 / DG4xxx for free  >:D

I assume, this is the only reason why Siglent need to offer these free upgrades.

If everyone could and would so easily hack to upgrade their Rigol DS then I think you have a point.  But with the arrival of the 'A' models the upgrade hack definitely becomes more convoluted and if you brick your scope then maybe game over.  Also, unless you can cover your tracks, the 'non-approved' upgrade automatically voids out your warranty.

In addition, most institutional users (schools) and legitimate businesses and also many (most?) individual users do not and will not perform an illicit unlicensed hack for numerous obvious reasons.  So, for the vast majority of users I think it will come down to a cost vs performance and quality issue.  Taking this into consideration it seems Siglent's upgrade discount and performance equation  is a fundamental game changer.

It need also remember these company users and some institutional users who need keep every equipment what they use with valid calibration certificates.  They really do not play these hack games.  This hackability marketing trick is only for small hobbyists segment but who keep name famous.

Rigol  can very easy design it so that it is not anymore easy hackable. Just after they want do it. It is not even difficult. But it looks like they do not want do it...

If you buy Siglent and get free options or model rised one step up, they are official versions including warranty.

EV of course. Cars with smoke exhaust pipes - go to museum. In Finland quite all electric power is made using nuclear, wind, solar and water.

Wises must compel the mad barbarians to stop their crimes against humanity. Where have the (strong)wises gone?
