Tektronix 2465B PSU tips?
« on: August 15, 2019, 03:29:11 pm »
Bonjour to all:

Have a late SN 2465B with bad power supply.
Any advise appreciated:

Pitfalls in removing it?
 Dummy load to debug?
Will it run with just a few loads connected?
Besides usual lytics and X2 caps, other parts (power res, power diodes, transistors) prone to fail?
Recent BOM for recapping?

MANY THANKS

Jon

Bonjour TauTech:  I know the 2465B teardown thread very well.
It is now 61 pages back to 2011.

But our forum search does not provide a search in a thread capability.

Can you please mention the pages or post numbers in the enormous thread which highlight PSU removal and troubleshooting?

Many Thanks

Jon

PSU posts around #180
As always the leaking SMD caps particularly on the A5 PCB need addressing with care to fix any corroded traces nearby.
Post #380 mentions damage to a SMD resistor possibly caused be leaking caps.
Post #403 is worth a look.

PSU removal and re-cap:

Inventory of parts required to perform the re-cap in the attachment.

Bonjour and many thanks for the notes, exactly what I needed. The teardown thread is massive

Re A5 SMD lytics leak damage I have fixed 3 units.  NVRAMs replaced and in process of CAL, one is finished.

The PSUs on  4 units on my bench are fine, I am expecting to receive the bad PSU 2465B next week.
I have not worked on the 2465B PSU before so this will be a new challenge. This unit has A5 reworked but besides PSU the NVRAM is dead and it needs CAL.

Will update as work proceeds.
