Which oscilloscope ?
« on: October 02, 2014, 04:44:34 pm »
Hey,
I'm looking to buy a new dso and are looking to pay around the £230~ Mark for an entry level model.

I'm looking for a simple to use ui and at least 70mhz but preferably 100mhz
And a sample rate of 1ghz Or 500 MHz depending on price.

Good Customer support and user base would also be a +

I've looked at brands such as rigol siglent Owon and hantek

Siglent SDS1102CNL
hantek DSO5102P
Wildcard - rigol DS1052E

Thanks in advance for your help !

I have searched the forum but couldn't find the answer to my question :(

Thanks would you recommend brands like Hantek or Owon ? Or is it best to stay clear and sacrifice bandwidth  for build quality / software / support ?

And stick with the rigol ?

Just search the  forum for "DS1054Z" and you should get enough info for correct decision.
(Hint: you can get 1300€ scope for 350€...)

The very first post in the thread just two lines down from this one (at the time of writing) starts:

"This new 50MHz version of the 4-channel DS1000Z series scopes is being discussed in several threads, particularly this one. However, the price/performance is so outstanding that it surely deserves its own.

A 4 channel, 12 Mpts memory, 30 000 waveforms/second, intensity graded scope of this quality for around 399 USD/299 EUR/235 GBP (plus tax) is nothing short of astounding"

....

looking to pay around the £230

Anybody advertising more "bandwidth!!!!!" for £230 is selling something you'll regret buying. Sample rate is not bandwidth.

It sure is not.

Enough real time sample rate is needed to support the highest frequency single shot measurement you expect to make.  Enough equivalent time sample rate is needed to support the vertical bandwidth.  Few oscilloscopes these days support equivalent time sampling so in practice, the real time sample rate needs to support the vertical bandwidth under all conditions and offhand, I do not know of any currently produced DSOs worth considering which do not meet this requirement except in unusual applications.
