Title: Which scope should I keep?
Post by: MannyTC on October 27, 2017, 04:25:44 am
Hi guys, I have two scopes that were given to me as I am starting out trying to learn stuff. I really don't think I need to keep two right now and was going to give one to my cousin. Wondering if you could help me decide which is the better one for me to keep. The two models are:

Tek TDS1002B
Keysight DS1052B

The Tek is 60MHz and the Keysight is 50MHz but I don't know if that difference should be the deciding factor. I would rather keep whichever is all around better unit. The Keysight seems much newer and is color where the Tek is not.

Thanks!

Keep Keysight. It has better screen and more memory. It is not even about color/BW, Tek screen is very slow.

Keep both of them. One cannot have too many scopes and multimeters  8)

The Tek is a very basic scope, but "it simply does it's job with no frills". I've used a similar model for many years in the past and I've been very satisfied with it. For todays standards, it's a poor scope.

Don't know much about the Keysight, it also looks very basic.  I'd suppose you to keep them both some time, try them, see which ones user interface you like more, which one is more responsive or more intuitive to use and keep this one (bad idea, keep both, one cannot have too many scopes and multimeters).

Keep both. It is an irrefutable law of the universe that says if you shut one the other will break.

It isn't a bad idea to use both, at least until you know what each one does better and why. Using different models helps you form an opinion on what is nice to use and what isn't.

The Keysight DS1052B is a rebadged Rigol.
A few minutes on Google shows it to be so.

A Rigol with a pretty solid reputation to boot.
