I just bought a new 87v and have noticed it has a white ring around the outside of the red + jack. Does anyone know why this is? I have never seen this before.

I've noticed it too in pictures. I just thought it's cosmetic.

Unless it glows in the dark for nigh time probing.

Nice idea there buddy but no it's night time glowing.

I think bd139 may be correct and it's some way to identify the marketing or of where it was made or something like that. I'm sure someone here will know and i'll find out soon enough.

Thanks for the idea all the same.

I suspect this is because of the color of plastic that was used.

There have been a couple of threads about it.  Try using "Fluke 87V color grey" and such in the advanced search.  Here is one hit:

So I have this puppy cracked all the way open. Is there anywhere on it that will let me know if it's USA made or Chinese put together?

It usually has that info on the sticker on the box.

Many USA made Fluke models will have it printed on the rear plastics.
