Why aren't these combined into the one piece of test equipment ?
swmcl:
Please excuse my ignorance but ...
Why isn't the "SIGLENT SVA1032X 3.2GHz 2-port VNA with Spectrum analysis" combined with the "SIGLENT SSA3032X-R Real-time Spectrum Analyzer 9kHz~3.2GHz" ??
Is it just essentially a marketing exercise ?
What can't I do on one machine or the other ?
Is there a technical reason why you would not combine the two machines ? (This would be backed up by seeing companies buying the two machines I assume.)
Cheers.

Apart from BW all these models have identical SA capability: SSA3000X Plus, SVA1000X and SSA3000X-R.

Yes

Look here.
Basically it shows you that the SVA doesn't have the realtime capability, because it doesn't have the necessary HW.
If you are willing to pay the X-R price, I think Siglent can create a "special" SVA for you.
Look here where I posted the inside of a SSA X-R. For those that have seen SVA/SSAX+ you can see that the HW is different.

Well, maybe SSA3075X+ is a X-R inside... ::)
The SVA/X+ can't be licensed from 3.2GHz to 7.5GHz. But the X-R can.
swmcl:
OK.
So essentially, the market might get to a point where it would demand the two instruments be combined. Or perhaps we have two legacy product lines that will naturally be combined as technology advances.
I think the VNA has a more sensitive front end or lower noise but I could be wrong.
Thanks for the replies so far.

Well the combination is already here as the X-R does the whole job. Of course the technology advances will bring the price down.
BTW, a few years ago I was asking myself this same question that you did.
Off-topic curiosity: A Rigol RSA3015N can be "upgraded" to a RSA5032N and costs only 2.500€, while a Siglent SSA3032X Plus which costs 2.900€ can be converted to a SVA but has no realtime capabilities.
