wifi on sds1104x-e is enabled by default but so slow.
« on: October 07, 2023, 09:14:05 pm »
I have read that I should buy a software license or hack my sds1104x-e oscilloscope in order to enable the Wi-Fi feature, the problem is that I didn't buy any license or hack the oscilloscope and it's brand new and the Wifi feature is enabled by default and I can control my oscilloscope via wifi, but the problem is that the wifi is so buggy and halts many times.
so, does this have something to do with the license or it's just a Wi-Fi dongle problem?

You have 30 free trial usages.

Do you have full signal strength shown for the USB dongle on the display ?
Which USB dongle are you using ?

I am using the TL_WN725N Wi-Fi dongle. regarding the signal strength, the distance between the router and the oscilloscope is like 5 meters with no walls or anything in between, so I guess the signal strength may be full.

I updated to the last version which is V6.1.37R10 and still the WiFi is so buggy, but the LAN works great.
does that mean the problem is my WiFi dongle or is the Wifi connectivity on this oscilloscope just horrible?

Good.  :-+

I suspect you have an IP conflict issue if you have DHCP auto assign the scopes IP.
To resolve this I suggest you turn DHCP to OFF and manually set the scopes IP to a high value, say ***.***.***.200 or similar to avoid conflicts with another device.
Be sure to Save new IP settings and leave DHCP set to OFF.

I really appreciate that you pointed out this problem, I didn't think of that.
actually, the webserver became more responsive than before but still, the LAN is way much faster.
the WiFi delay is around 1 second while the LAN gives real-time readings and actions.

Respectively, don't discount your router is the problem as after our ISP updated ours my SDS1104X-E WiFi performance was much improved at close and long range.
Through several walls (timber framed construction) and in a detached garage I still get 2 of 3 bars signal strength.

for future reference only, I managed to solve this problem by updating my driver of TP-Link TL_WN725N to the latest version, I did that by plugging the adapter into my laptop and installing the driver from the TP-link website, and now the WiFi feature of the oscilloscope works in a nearly real-time manner with a delay of around 200ms.

You updated the driver on your laptop and that changed the performance of the TL-WN725N when it is plugged into the oscilloscope?

That doesn't make sense to me.

I don't know anything about that particular device... but it's not terribly uncommon to see device firmware updates bundled into driver downloads, which could explain that.

Good point.  Though I'd expect that any firmware for that device wouldn't be persistent (ie., the driver would download it each time it was initialized).  But it' is certainly possible.

Yep, can't quite get my head around this either.  :-//

DSO FW updates have certainly improved how the TP Link USB dongle works with the scope and one would expect the TP Link update would only improve PC performance by installing better drivers than those in the PC OS.

As yet the OP has not shared which of these updates he used  :-//
