Re. those that sell used gear: any idea about pricing?
In most cases (I have seen at least, having requested quite a few quotes from US companies), professional sellers of used gear have often pretty rediculous prices.

Used Equipment:

Stewart of Reading

Excellent service, prices negotiable. Web list not updated regularly, seems that there is not much new stuff coming in anymore. But they have been in the business for ages, so the owner must quite old nowadays.

+1  :-+

Edit: I've bought stuff from them since they were in a little Victorian corner shop near Cemetery Junction. They used to have a really good bargain basement out at the back. Hopefully they recreated it in their new premises!

Yes, Stewart of Reading are very good. I bought a couple of items a few years ago from them.

However, one aspect of their (excellent) service is that they insisted on testing each item before it was released. I chose to buy at a busy time for them and there was a backlog. So I had to wait a couple of weeks before they could test the items. They really do like to make sure the items are tested and working before release!

This was a bit frustrating for me but I had a very pleasant surprise when the items arrived in the post. Not only were the items carefully cleaned (I could tell they had been cleaned) and well packaged, they also included bound copies of the user manual as well for no added cost.

So it was definitely worth the wait :)

other suppliers I can recommend are:

KJDS (advertises on ebay and on here)
Ralfe Electronics
Ex rental deals from Microlease/Livingston Hire

Regarding Microlease it's a case of swigs and roundabouts. I've bought about £10k worth of Agilent probes from them for a total of about £400 on eBay recently in half a dozen auctions, but I often found that the item pictured wasn't the item sent, and essential accessories that were pictured like browser resistive probe tips and ground sticks were missing, although after some exchanges this was rectified. Communications were good, as was the speed of resolution, but a bit of a mixed bag overall.

Nonetheless, picking up a 1130A 1.5GHz Agilent FET probe for £50 and a 1131A 3.5GHz one with both single ended and differential browsers for £180 was a good deal in my book!
