PeakTech 2025 Multimeter: Experiences/OEMs?
« on: February 05, 2016, 05:15:32 am »
I'm currently looking for a new, affordable multimeter that I can use for beginner-level electronics and maybe the odd computer repair related task. First I looked at the Owon B35T, but that one doesn't seem to great in terms of safety and some people on here have mentioned that the Bluetooth module might interfere with measuring. So I found another in my price range, the PeakTech 2025, which uses an USB cable instead. Problem is, there's pretty much nothing about it online in terms of reviews, and while a lot of the other meters they sell are rebadges, this one doesn't seem to be?

The company is based in Germany, so I'm assuming that they will at least be honest about the specs and ratings of gear they sell domestically. Shouldn't randomly explode at least, right? No teardown photos anywhere though.

The (bilingual) manual says that it's got a 10A/600V and a 0.6A/250V fuse, but not what type they are. No word on how the USB cable is connected either (optical isolation?).

Is the Extech EX330 still the recommended general use meter of its price range, by the way? Because I'll probably just go with that if nobody's ever heard of this thing either.

From the manual:
Removing the backcover and replacement of the fuses must only be performed by qualified personnel.
F1 0,6 A / 600 V F ? 5 x 20 mm
F2 10 A / 600 V F ? 5 x 20 mm

Piece of crap. One has to extract the PCB to change fuses, which are unlikely to be HRC.
Get Dave's Brymen 235 if you want something reliable, with genuine UL safety rating.

Probably made by Victor in Shenzhen:

Something like the Victor 86D

Doesn't seem to be available to the general public yet, besides, how high would the price of that be? I've read something about shipping alone being $30...

That seems very similar, save for the backlight. Thanks for finding that!

What do you think about the UT61B? I don't mind having to open the whole thing if I actually manage to blow a fuse, and that one's got data logging and ceramic fuses (at least in Germany - "Keramiksicherung" - apparently the 10A one, HC10aR, goes for 10EUR apiece in retail).

The 61B (GS version) is also good. Well built, with proper fuses but not true RMS, 4,000 count and CAT III 300V only, which is fine for home use.

Resurrecting this thread because I was also considering to buy this multimeter.

I found a review in German on the 4th Google result page: https://diag.dolenanaki.ga/peaktech-2025-digital-multimeter-optimales-multimeter-mit-aufzeichnungsfunktion-via-usb-am-pc/
The reviewer remarks that the continuity tester is very slow (1-2 seconds delay) and that both the backlight and the whole device do not stay on long enough.
