Hi,
I think I have a bad YIG tuned Oscillator in a 20 Gig Freq. Synth. Anyone know the reliability of these electro-mechanical devices?
Seems they run in an 85C oven environment, with the YIG somehow attached to a small rod, and tuning done with at least one magnetic coil with around 200-400 mA running through it. The chances for failure seem awfully high with all this going on...

Get some inspiration there:

BTW: Nothing electromechanical, if it becomes electromechanical, the YIG spere or the rod on which it sits, is loose and you'll have a fun time adjusting it back into position.
So unless you dropped it, it should be fine. Do you have test gear (SA or power meter) that goes to 20GHz for troubleshooting?

I find the Avantek YTOs to be quite reliable throughout the years of service. Some HP ones are not hermetically sealed and they might degrade with time, depending on the environment.

Access to measurement equipment for 20, or so Gigs, yes.
Must be a lot of people dropping them out there...
