Title: Amprobe TI-1000
Post by: rockwell on February 28, 2020, 12:45:11 pm
Recently I found on a wellknown auction site an Amprobe TI-1000 thermal camera.
I got this camera for a small obulus, and thought, wow now I have a second camera.

Soon I found out that there is allmost no information available about this camera.
I found a user manual and some leaflets, nothing more.
This is maybe not so strange due to the fact that this camera is from 2006.

The camera has a RS-232 connection and needs software for a Palm-pc or a regulary PC.

Now my question; is there somebody out there who has this software for me ?

Rockwell,

The Amprobe Ti-1000 is actually a rebadged IRISYS 1011 thermal imager. There is plenty of information about it on the internet under its IRISYS name :) The software is available via the Irisys support portal.

Now some not so great news.... whilst I do have a complete kit in my collection, it is a curio to me. The lens in the camera is worth more than the price I paid ! The thermal sensor is 16 x 16 pixels and they are interpolated up to 96 x 96 pixels. The camera kit comes with an HP PDA but may also be connected to a PC, for which software is provided. I previously wrote about this interesting camera on this forum and will provide a link shortly.

Wow ! You allways impress me more and more Fraser !
Many thanks for your help and the information you make available to the lesser skilled persons like me.

I did know that this camera has a very low resolution, but i love dinosaurs.
Shipping from this camera did cost me more then the unit did cost.

Later on today I will read your 2 links and try to get the required software.

Again, many thanks !

The Irisys 1001 and 1011 are an interesting part of thermal imaging history as they are an example of a British company seeking a way to provide an affordable thermal imaging capability to a customer, albeit a somewhat compromise solution on the resolution front. IRISYS designed and manufactured their own thermal sensor array to avoid the challenges and costs that accompanied buying such parts from the USA. They have done very well for themselves ever since and are specialists in thermal people counting and tracking systems.

Some trivia......

IRISYS were a UK company.

They designed and manufactured a visual thermometer with 16 x 16 and 32 x 32 pixels resolution. I own two of the original prototype units  8) They are in red cases.

FLUKE marketed the IRISYS visual thermometer as the VT02 and VT04. To my knowledge, IRISYS never sold the product under their own branding and it appears to have been either a development for FLUKE or a single source agreement between the two companies.

FLUKE, or at least their parent company ended up buying IRISYS and it is now part of the FLUKE empire.

After the FLUKE takeover, all Thermal imaging camera production, except for the VT02 and VT04 ceased at IRISYS. FLUKE had their own thermal camera product line so likely saw no reason to duplicate within the company and its satellites. IRISYS are now a specialist in the very important people counting and tracking market that is so popular with retailers and retail market analysts.

Finally.... Amprobe is part of the same empire as FLUKE, so it would appear that FLUKE, or its owners at the time, had connections with IRISYS to rebadge one of their products. Oh what a tangled web is created with inter-company marketing and sales agreements  ;D

The IRISYS partner portal is to be found here.....

https://partnerportal.irisys.co.uk/?__hstc=212210891.c7bda5d79d8f69f8a1ae1ee86a8d9473.1576771615894.1576771615894.1582895896246.2&__hssc=212210891.1.1582895896246&__hsfp=1590297424

You need to register but it is nothing to worry about and the software should be there for you. If not, let me know and I will did out my IRI 1011 kit and upload the CD. It may be old versions of the software though. Better to get the latest from the support portal.

More trivia....

FLUKE were bought by Danaher in 1998

IRISYS IRI 1011 was marketed circa 2004

AMPROBE were bought by Danaher in 2006

AMPROBE is a division of FLUKE

IRISYS were bought by FLUKE in 2012

FLUKE was ‘spun-off’ to Danaher company “Fortive” in 2016

So FLUKE may not have been involved with AMPROBE and IRISYS when the IRI 1011 was being made.

Technology magazine comment on the IRI 1011 in April 2003.....

It cost under £1000 which, at the time, was impressive. PDA was extra though.

Have it up and running.
The "live" output via rs232 on pc is just perfect.
I wish I had such an live output on my E4.

Many thanks again Fraser for bringing my dinosaur back to live !

Hope to find more in the future.

The later versions of E4 can behave like a web cam via its USB port if you can tolerate the <9fps frame rate.

which version of the E4 do you mean, and how can i check for this ?

Any modern model that requires Buds hack will have the capability. Regrettably I do not have a link to details but they are in either the E4 teardown or E4 WiFi hack threads. If I find the detail, I will provide a link.

From memory the camera is put into VLC video streaming mode. How that is done on your later version E4 I do not know. It would be worth searching the various E4 related threads on this forum using google to find references to video streaming and use with the Rasberry Pi.

I allready liberated my E4 according the thread from Bud.
But in the menu from my E4 there is nothing shown about VLC streaming.
I will spit through the severall E4 threads on this forum.
