The second picture of the ‘dog bone’ shaped capture unit is the model that I used to capture images and video from my Electrophysics 7290A camera. My unit objected to a totally monochrome signal input and claimed there was no signal present. I suspect it looks for the colour burst. It’s included driver and Arcsoft software worked fine on my Win7 laptop.

Of note the WinTV-USB has a blue line on the left and has a much harder time dealing with the interlace - see the 'fur' on green battery bar outline which is one pixel/TV line wide.

Bill

Updated the WinTV-USB Live2 on another camera type, still with Hauppauge TV 8 viewer
No blue bar on left

I've been looking at one of these as a possibility, modern chipset might make a decent difference.

If you buy it, be sure to post an update here. Looks interesting, but items like that are always a gamble...

Hello. :)
Long time i was not participating, but always reading with a great pleasure your participations to all of you.

Just a little input about the Analog Video Capture possibilities.
I recently bought a DVR generally used by hobbyist in the drone domain.

https://shop.runcam.com/runcam-mini-fpv-dvr/
https://www.runcam.com/download/RUNCAM-DVR-S-Manual.pdf

Quite cheap and very easy to wire between a thermal core delivering analog video signal and a screen.

Some limitations and perhaps not the highest recording quality, but for instance with my little Indico A10 core (160x120) it gives to me satisfying results allowing to keep some traces of my experiments and night survey.

Here some first examples:

A simple very portable alternative to consider also perhaps...

Best regards.

Stéphane

Sorry for digging this thread up, but has anyone continued their search on a good quality grabber?
especially one that works on android.
ezcap dongle works with easycap software but it seems like it has mjpeg compression set to maximum, it looks horrible compared to the built in display (which also runs off the same composite signal)
avermedia ezmaker dongle has much better quality but doesnt work on android, the medion which is also quite good doesnt work either.

my goal is to record and take screenshots of a thermal video feed on the go.
next thing i try is a av to hdmi converter and hdmi grabber instead.

edit: cant insert attachments...

i went on and bought one of these 4 in 1 80$ capture cards on ali, since it seems to be pretty advanced when seeing the pcb compared to most usb-dongles.
1767185-0 <- firefox png
https://de.aliexpress.com/item/1005003727496316.html

it turns out to be pretty good, it works on Android, it supports up to 60fps and image quality is.. probably limited by my source device anyways.

heres a ezcap 2.0 usb (STK1160 based) for comparison (in OBS)
1767191-1 <- obs64_uDZxxxxx

its output is very compressed, i get a lot of jpeg artifacts in the android app. at least it works on a mobile device.

heres a AverMedia Ezmaker 7:
(which i had to screenshot in vlc since it just didnt work in OBS.  doesnt work on android either.  high contrast edges are quite sharp, but whats the point of a good device if it doesnt work where you need it.)
its using a Conexant CX23012-11Z as found in many devices https://linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Conexant_CX2310x   but it has some speckles, slight glitches. maybe psu related? ive added caps and shielding but it didnt fix it.
1767197-2 <- vlc_q9xxxx

and heres this 4 in 1 capture card
it works well in android, has lots of resolutions and framerates to chose from. up to 1920x1080 and up to 60fps, even uncompressed at lower resolution.
it even supports the 50hz PAL coming out of my thermal imager.
quality is like the avermedia id say. without artifacting.

1767203-3 <- obs64_bdxxx

ill try some videos on the usb camera app soon if its still heavily mjpg compressed as with the ezcap. and if its worth it at the 10x price.

edit2:
screenshots made on the android app
1190.jpg is ezcap, 9290.jpg 4 in 1.

Is there any HDMI-USB device, that captures interlaced 720x576 video?
