Flir b3xx backup for 9Hz camera
« on: April 07, 2024, 12:44:17 pm »
Hi,
Does anyone have the B335 or similar system backup folder for a 9Hz camera?
I have the 30Hz version backup restored to the camera, but getting weird image display on screen when restoring it.
I can get it to display correctly only when activating service mode but it forgets after reboot.
Thanks.

Service mode just uses a factory default configuration for the installed firmware so that shows hope for your camera.

A backup from another camera uses the same file checksum system as found in the FLIR Ex series so you would need to change the serial number and checksum in your backup configuration files. You may just need to change some entries in your configuration files and update the checksum afterwards.

Is this the camera with the smashed lens that was on eBay ?

I will see if I have a backup from a 9Hz camera in my archive in case there are differences.

If your cameras firmware appears to operate correctly whilst in “Service mode” you could try comparing the configuration files found in the Factory configuration folder with those in the operational folder and even transplant them across to see if the camera will operate normally when using that factory configuration. The factory configuration folder was used at the factory and in service centres as a safe baseline configuration. You can edit the configuration files after confirming correct operation of your camera.

If you cannot get the camera to provide a normal thermal image when the factory configurations are transplanted in to the operational folders, you have a more complex problem to solve.Thankfully your camera basically runs a similar firmware to that found in the E4 that is well supported on this forum. Be very careful before using E4 files in your B335 though as they are not identical firmwares.

If this is the camera from eBay with the broken lens, I shall be very interested to hear your thoughts on how you intend to repair that lens block. I have checked my archives and sadly I do not have a 9fps version of firmware for your camera. I cannot recall whether there are different firmware builds for 9fps and 60fps cameras.

I presume you are getting a normal full screen “thermal image” when in service mode ? You seem to suggest this in your post.

I ask this because study of the image that you have provided suggests to me damage to the microbolometer. There is roughly 60% loss of rows in a solid block and there is one complete column lost. I would normally expect to see this when an issue exists in the microbolometer ROIC rather than a firmware related issue. Having said that, you can see all manner of strange display defects if firmware throws its toys out of the pram !

Hi Fraser,
Yes that's the one, i got it working earlier by changing the serial number, haven't had a chance yet to add a comment here, i had a backup from my other B425 which i applied to this camera and with the other camera serial it all works great now, just need to find a similarly suited lens now to replace the smashed one, although even so i'm surprised how usable the camera is :)
Thanks !!!

Great news  :-+

So it was just a firmware issue. Interesting display, as I said.
