Buying Thermviewer app from TaoBao?
« on: October 12, 2020, 08:55:53 am »
Hello,

since I really would like to obtain the full version of Thermviewer for my HT-301, but was not successful so far via the in-app purchasing option and neither could establish contact to the developer, I was wondering if anyone has experience of buying the software for example via TaoBao ?

Is the offering legit or just a scam?

Any feedback is highly welcome!

Thanks a lot in advance...

You don't mention the identity of the seller but if it's Jinhua I would definitely trust him. He wrote the software, after all.

I wonder what I would actually buy from that seller (for the 200 CNY option). Google translate tells me that I would get an activation code, but I'm not sure how that should be entered into Thermviewer...

Also, I didn't find any evidence that the seller is Jinhua, seems rather to be a Chinese thermal camera shop (?)

Maybe a native speaker could comment / confirm ?

Buying activation from the author via an app is my preferred path as you know the money is going to the person who did the work to produce the program. Using other, possibly cheaper, paths can mean the author sees none of the money you pay. Where this sort of specialist software is concerned it is good to support those that write it as they may be relying upon the funds for a living or to encourage further development of software :)

Given the option, I recommend using the using the ‘in-app’ licence and registration option, if provided.

Fully agree with you, Fraser. I'd love to buy the app via its built-in options and make sure that Jinhua gets the funding for his excellent work, but I'm permanently getting errors regarding the connection with the server, so this path does not seem to work.

Did anyone recently have success in buying the app via the in-app purchasing? If so, was some kind of tweaking needed (e.g. using a Chinese VPN) ?

I can only speak of my experience using ThermViewer with ThermApp cameras but I was intrigued to discover that ThermViewer is keyed to the camera serial numbers. My ThermApp Pro and one 25Hz ThermApp work with ThermViewer, whereas the other times out in trial mode.

The important thing to know is that it doesn't matter which of my devices I connect the camera to: as long as it's one of those two cameras it automagically gives me the 'registered' version.

I have yet to confirm whether this is the same across different Yahoo IDs, but it may be useful info for someone.

So is this to say that thermviewer.com is not to be trusted? Because I've tried to install on two separate devices from there and both say the .apk can't be opened.

On the launching page of the app there is a trial or register selection, choose register and you will be directed to a page that allows you to purchase using PayPal for $35 or enter registration key.

Hi blueskull, do you still see that registration site? I never managed to get there, since the error message since months is "Problem communicating with data servers, please try again or contact our.  e:399327322@qq.com". I also never got any response from that email.

So, even if I bought a license from TaoBao, I couldn't enter it because I cannot reach the registration page.
