Title: Can anyone help me identify this camera?
Post by: 40xb on September 19, 2023, 09:01:27 pm
Hello, I'm new and looking for some information/help. We found what I believe to be thermal imaging camera of some sort, at work. My boss tasked me to find out what we need to get it back up and running. I have not been able to find any info on it online, hence I found this forum in searching for help. None of the marking come up in google searches and I have no documentation or power cables for it to even see if it works. Thanks in advance for your help.

There is no brand name on it anywhere

To provide better help, you really need to take the cover off the enclosure and show us the camera that resides within. It is likely to be a thermal camera core alongside a visible light camera core for dual wavelength imaging. Such technology is commonly used surveillance, Fever Screening and the medical profession. The two cameras will likely be combined via a USB Hub or Ethernet streaming board. In some cases, as often found in military and marine applications, two composite video outputs may be present and a control port used to command ten cores.

The thermal camera lens looks familiar to me but that does not actually identify the core that sits behind it.

A closer study of your camera suggests to me that it could be a bespoke build rather than a standard Commercial, Off-the-Shelf product. The enclosure looks like a good quality project type enclosure and the bare metal edges of the visible light camera shows a lack of consideration for aesthetics and light reflection adjacent to a lens.

You definitely need to open that enclosure. It looks to have screw covers on the front that may reveal enclosure screws beneath.

Ditto what Fraser said.  That looks like a home made box and those four plastic pieces look like screw covers.    Most IR camera vendors are proud of their stuff and slap their name/logo somewhere on it.  If not then post up any numbers you find on it and somebody on here can likely help identify it.

OK, here is what I have in the initial breakdown

I cant get the last pic to load but I think it is the part number on the thermal camera (PN: AT3003FNU)

I knew I recognised the lens ! That camera appears to be from the ICI range of FMX Industrial fixed mount thermal cameras. Take a look at the link and download the user manual for one of the cameras to see the same identifying features  :-+

I attach pictures of the FMX 400 camera.

So we now know the identity of the component parts of your dual spectrum camera  :-+

But how to use them ? Whoever built that dual spectrum camera may have used some clever software to analyse the thermal scene and also provided a visible light reference image. The camera may be a response to the Pandemic as we saw many dual spectrum camera solutions produced quickly in an attempt to detect people with a fever. This could also explain the home brew appearance of this particular camera. It is using quality components that were bought othshelf with no hardware development required. ICI supplied dual spectrum cameras for Er Detection but they were a more refined product in terms of the casing. I am wondering whether your camera is a “MK1” version of their fever detection product line. They like to put their labels on the cameras but such can peel off of a textured surface.

I attach an image of the ICI fever detection camera that I own.

The story of my ICI FM 640 P dual spectrum camera……

It is a Mk2 model and there was a larger Mk1 version, but that looked nothing like your camera (on the outside anyway).

Thank you so much. I will start reading and researching. I believe this was used during the pandemic but discarded, into a server room, shortly after it ended. My boss is saying that they are gonna toss it but letting me keep it if I want it. I may turn this into a project and see what I can do with it for fun.

ICI do not make their own cameras so you may be interested in who actually makes the thermal camera. I believe it to be a product of Infiray and a quick search revealed that they do make an AT3003. They also make ATS300 for fever screening applications. Do not be mislead by the slightly different case appearance. There appears to be an outer trim shell used on the Infiray stand alone cameras for cosmetic appearances.

If it was used for fever detection I believe it will use the thermal camera that has increased measurement accuracy, but a reduced temperature measurement range.

https://infraredcameras.com/products/fmx-400-p-series-critical-monitoring

This would also align with the Infiray ATS300 model for fever detection.

Searches for Infiray AT3003 give very limited information but I suspect the ATS300 is just a more accurate version of the AT3003.

Your boss is very generous to gift you such a camera. The fever detection systems were very expensive and the Thermal camera alone has a high resale value. You will be able to control the camera and stream the video with the OEM’s utilities. Try writing to ICI and Infiray asking for the software that works with the camera. The user manual will also help you to configure the IP links etc.

Infiray has a program for the AT300 series that you can download from their website. I will do that at home tonight. I need to track down a power cable too so it looks like a trip to the hardware store is in order to see what I can find. This housing says to use a 24VDC and the jack is a threaded power connector. I am really curious to get this running and see what range and functionality it has.

I believe I have posively identified your camera.

It is an early example of the a Honeywell Security MODUM HRCF-FD384H intended for Human temperature checks.

I will see what I can find out about this camera and upload anything useful here.
I attach a picture of the latest version of this camera with a slightly more refined casing.

A brief description that I found…..

“Heat measurement up to 16.4ft/5m away
High accuracy (0.54°F/0.3°C)
Low 384x288 resolution
Secondary HD visible camera
SDK support
Paired blackbody for temperature reference
Designed to be deployed as standalone systems (or as part of a networked system) allowing a portable and rapid deployment
The perfect solution for initial body temperature measurement to control and secure entrance to airports, schools and universities,  government public offices, shops, restaurants, museums and other facilities“

There is a unit similar to your version on eBay.com.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/295045422191?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=-eO0IqiLRnm&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=BgpdXaaLSkK&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/295045422191?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=-eO0IqiLRnm&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=BgpdXaaLSkK&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY)

It would appear that your model is the “MODUM RCF” rather than “MODUM HRCF”. An earlier version maybe ? The HRCF still has the same distinct thermal camera lens so it looks to be the same thermal camera within its casing.

The manufacturer has also decided to paint the aperture edges of the visible light camera, as they should have done in the first place !  ;D

I attach a couple of pictures of the MODUM RCF-FP camera from the auction.

That is enough investigating from me. I leave it to you to contact Honeywell for a user manual and maybe the software if it is free. If you provide them with the name of your employer when asking about the camera, they may be more willing to assist you as you will be a registered customer/end user of their camera system. There is likely a Blackbody temperature reference floating around your company somewhere as well !

I found the Blackbody box in the same room. I cleaned it a bit and it does power up.
I still need to find a power cable for the camera housing. Work has picked up significantly and I haven't had a lot of time to find a power supply cable locally.

I appreciate you and your time Fraser.

Good to see that the Blackbody was still around. Be careful if trying to clean the painted emission plate. The surface is easily damaged. I cannot be sure of a safe method of cleaning the emission plate as much depends upon the coating that has been applied and how solvents may affect it. Distilled water is the safest cleaning solution but IPA may be used on some other surfaces. LCD screen cleaner or water based glasses cleaner are also pretty safe cleaning solutions. Always test the cleaning solution with a cotton bud in the corner of the emission plate. If the white cotton bud soaked in the cleaning solution turns black when applied to ten emission plate, the cleaning solution is dissolving the coating !

I used air then IPA on the body and internally. I only used air on the plate.
