Chinese HT-18 220x160 8 Hz Handheld Thermal Camera
« on: February 02, 2018, 04:18:05 pm »
https://www.banggood.com/HT-18-220x160-Handheld-Infrared-Thermal-Camera-Thermograph-Camera-Digital-Temperature-Tester-p-1255696.html

Regular pricing looks decent, but no full resolution image samples available, only crappy videos.

Thoughts?

That's interesting, I've never seen a 220x160 sensor, the closest that comes to mind is the 206x156 Seek Gen1 sensor, which is fairly unobtainium for a white label manufacturer.
The sample images don't look have thermopile array levels of noise either...
For that price it sure doesn't look like it's going to be an upscaled Lepton 3, the lens doesn't suggest that either.

This is the actual manufacturer of this unit:
https://hytechcn.en.alibaba.com/product/60737113891-800587624/High_resolution_ht_18_thermal_imaging_camera_china_made_ir_camera_heat.html

Could this be a new development?

Chinese handheld thermal imagers like the Guide IR510 seem to have their "own" 400×300 sensor, too. A few years ago they used 384×288 sensors from ULIS.
Maybe there is already a chinese fab producing microbolometers?
On the Internet, nobody knows you're a cat.

Interesting. I cannot find any detail on the sensor technology they are using.

The pricing is competitive if the camera performs to specification.

Even China sourced Microbolometers are still quite an expensive component, so this new camera seems almost too good to be true....... $400 to $1000 for a microbolometer alone.

https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Night-Vision-Thermal-FPA-Uncooled-Microbolometer_60676296305.html?spm=a2700.7724857.main07.1.25e25884X22GEu

The above referenced Chinese Microbolometer looks like a ULIS Clone and production of such an encapsulation is expensive,

We may have to wait and see if anyone does a treardown on one of these cameras to find out its secrets.

Indeed, I'm considering getting one to do a review.

Chinese handheld thermal imagers like the Guide IR510 seem to have their "own" 400×300 sensor, too.

I believe that's a sensor manufactured by DALI or one of the other fabs - it's possible to purchase it, if you know where to look, but it's not cheap and it's a bad performer(compensating with pixel count).
I was often quoted ~$400-900 for a 320x240 to 640x480 sensor. Quite a price range, but it's not awful. The support and documentation doesn't exist though, you're supposed to just guess how it works, from what I gathered.

This is entirely new, it seems.

The manual shows it uses MSX/thermal combined image. But they don't really show any example images, other than some likely photoshopped picture of a car engine.
JPG only capture.

This datasheet shows an entirely different picture:

Suspiciously similar to the Seek lens....

I don't get the sense that it uses the visual camera for image enhancement, only that you can also capture visible light images alongside the thermal images.

It probably does the boring "image blend" that you see on the $150 and $250 camera models. No edge detection.

That car engine may just be the startup screen. It seems you have to switch between the camera vision view and the IR view - there does not seem to be any composite mode.

It is a single button press to switch the views, and you could always combine them later in an image editor. That way you can compensate for the positional offset of the two lenses.

Hi,

Hey, could you share some sample images directly from the camera? I would also like to know what price you paid for it + shipping to Europe.

Also resume your postings in English so more people can understand it.

Hi, Yes, It makes only single photos and is displayed on the pc only as a memory....
the single images are not high resolution but usable....it is more suitable as a night vision device.....

Best bet is to buy it and check it out, if you have enough money to toss out for the sole purpose of testing equipment.
