Title: first used camera for a noob
Post by: Durrfred on March 10, 2020, 05:37:04 pm
Just found a Flir PM 695 on Ebay. I honestly have no clue if it would be a good idea to buy the device since it is untested. Would it even be possible to import to Germany?

The FLIR PM695 is a nice 320 x 240 pixel 60fps Uncooled microbolometer based camera. I know the model well and service them. I own several of these cameras and they are generally reliable but there are some common minor faults that can occur.

An ‘untested’ thermal camera will always be a calculated risk as not many people are willing to work on them for you if it requires repair. Repairs can be expensive and time consuming.

The PM695 uses an export controlled Military quality microbolometer and so comes under dual use technology regulations. Officially it should not be shipped out of the USA without an Export licence from BIS. The seller is the one breaking Federal Law by doing so and not the buyer.

Thanks a lot for your help. (again!) I have decided to take the gamble and bought the unit. In a prior post you spoke about the possibility to buy/make a power supply for the LEMO port. Would it be possible to get some advice on how to do it?
Kind Regards,
Frederik

No problem. The only challenge on the power supply front is to find the Lemo 2B-310 10 pin plug at a reasonable price. They are very expensive but I can sell one to you at a better price as I have stock.

The pinout for the various connectors is provided in the PM695 user manual. The User manual is available for free on the internet and from the FLIR archives.

Best Wishes
