FLIR have announced that they may be selling Raymarine. Whilst a well respected and generally successful brand, Raymarine are not part of FLIR’s core business. FLIR do sell thermal cameras under the Raymarine brand and I expect them to continue selling such cameras, but likely only under the FLIR brand.
FLIR have had quite an eventful history on the business performance front. Whilst acknowledged as a major player in the thermal imaging equipment industry, they have invested a lot of money in company acquisitions and new ventures. If a company over extends itself, it can get into financial trouble, no matter how good the core business or reputation. I recall the FLIR hydraulic observation post project. It was intended to be literally a ‘pop-up’ observation post that was equipped for the needs of security or border enforcement agencies. The project hit some development ‘snags’ that resulted in a significant financial loss. FLIR may be looking to down size in some areas to reduce their financial exposure and keep the banks happy ? There is more and more competition in their core market these days so FLIR must be smart in their investments and risk appetite.
The story is here

It is also of note that a restructuring is taking place within FLIR with the Commercial division being combined with the Industrial division. The reason behind this move is not known but may be for reasons of performance improvement or just streamlining of the business.
