flir Ex-XT cameras
« on: September 21, 2020, 10:58:07 am »
It seems there is now XT-version of Flir Ex cameras. I wonder what's the difference between the two.  Looking at specs I don't see much difference except thermal sensitivity is <50mK vs <60mK . I wonder if they are still hackable as some shops report non-XT cameras to be absolete. Product image looks exactly the same.

Here are links:

I do not think FLIR offer an  E4-XT model, but I could be wrong.
If this is the case, the E5-XT is the lowest cost model of XT.

They”XT” offers extended temperature range capability and has a maximum measurement range of -20C to +400C. The standard Ex series cover -20C to +250C.

Ah, I see the XT-line is already discussed about a year ago in E4 thread. I thought XT was a new line of products...

Nah, just a revamp of the original Ex line. The increased temperature range does not even need new hardware. It is just a software function adding a Range 2 to the camera. Range 2 will have reduced sensitivity though and this is often missed out of specifications  ;)

The standard Ex upgrade may work on an XT camera but there is a risk of losing the extended temperature range and this should be considered carefully. If memory serves, an XT owner reported losing the +400C capability after upgrading his camera :( That could indicate some sort of model detection or firmware ‘branch’ that is affected by the file changes necessary for the upgrade created by Bud. Note that Bud has never recommended or approved the use of his upgrade files fir use on anything but a standard E4 late model camera running a specific firmware.

so a firmware hack can just (in theory) add it to any non-XT cam?

same with the Exx-BX series which can be changed to the (superior?) non-BX version?
