Flir ThermaCAM B2
« on: June 02, 2022, 12:38:44 pm »
Hello. I watched this forum for a long time but I've just registered to ask something. I think people here are very knowledgeable.

I'm going to receive a Flir B2 from my friend who don't need it anymore. After read the manual online(attached), I still have some questions:

There are at least 3 sub-type of B2: 215, 243, 247. They are listed to have different FOV on same lens, so they are using different sensor with different pixel pitch.

I want to know are they all using VOX sensors? Or some are A-Si?

Are they all native 160x120 resolution?

If not, can I hack it like Ex series?

If the resolution is already maxed, can I at least get into the firmware and tweak something else? (There's even an RS232 link, but the manual only says it's for image transfer like the USB.)

Where can I get the widest 4.5mm lens?

That's all questions I can think for now, hope I can get some hint from you brilliant people. Thank you!

1. The B2 uses the same 160 x 120 pixel Microbolometer in all variants.

2. The FOV is set using different lenses, as detailed in the manual. These lenses are rare on the used market and can be expensive.

3. The B2 predates the FLIR models that use the easily modifiable Win CE firmware and, IIRC, it uses a Linux based operating system.

4. IIRC the maximum resolution is already in use on the B2 so no upgrade in resolution is possible.

5. I did a teardown of the very similar FLIR E2 variant on this forum.

Thank you very much!

Sorry but I think it's not... Please see linked manual, page 103-120(foot mark, not the number shown in PDF viewer).
For the same 4.5mm lens as example, type 215 camera have 78.8 degree FOV, while type 243 is 63.7 degree, and type 247 is 68 degree.
It seems type 215 have around 45um pixel pitch, while 243 is somewhere like 36um, and 247 is about 39um, if they all use the full sensor area.

Maybe I missed something. Thanks.

My error. Fair enough. Regret I cannot help further as I have had limited exposure to this series of cameras.

the B2 datasheet
I edited OP to include a optimized full manual.
The original is 17MiB and too big to upload on this forum, I deleted some useless pages and used a lossless method to compress it.
