First working prototype now finished. Seem quite stable, but since it's plastic it will move a little when pushed.
I recorded two videos with 4x zoom to show how quickly it return to position when giving the handle (max leverage) bumps first from the side and then downwards.
As expected the front position (where Flir also has their) is least stable, but still quite OK.
Center mount returns more quickly to default position, but movement of the camera is limited due to the angle of the ballhead using that position.

Not sure about shapeways, there's still things that needs assembling like the 3/8->1/4 adapters and M5 screw to thumbwheel, and band for the handle.
I'll figure something out, but perhaps better with 3D hubs, as then folks close to the person needing the part can produce the parts and make a bit of earning, instead of a huge company.
Should be cheaper as well for the user.
