HT-18 (or ITC629) case opening for repair
« on: April 18, 2022, 07:51:41 pm »
I've recently brought a secondhand Hti HT-18 camera and found the visible light camera image is not displayed (Thermal Image works fine). I'm trying to work out how to open the case so I can investigate and hopefully repair it. I have removed the battery and the two screws and can unclip part of the case around the handle but fear there are some hidden screws. Has anyone tried opening one of these and know the secret?

Focus on the trim around the display. It will normally hide the main case screws. It is either clipped into place or adhered using double sided tape. They are not normally glued. Warming the area with a hair dryer on a WARM (not HOT) setting softens any double sided tape adhesive.

Before committing to open up the HT-18, have you tried pressing the Left and Right arrows to see if the overlay function work at all?

I just get a complete black screen with the spot temperatures labelled in all overlay positions (25%,50%,75%,100%) so its not really blending the images.  I would have expected to still see the Thermal image through a 25% black screen but its 100% black in all positions (except 0% when the Thermal image works fine).

It's not really a massive problem (just annoying) so if I can get it apart with minimum risk then I might try. Heating the screen is a good suggestion so I might try that.  I was wondering if the screws might be under the side "name plates" but under the screen makes more sense.

Thankyou both for the suggestions :)

You were right, the heat gun did the trick and I found the 4 screws and it came apart easily. Just need to fix it now  :)
