Title: Images from the new FLIR E95
Post by: Milt on April 05, 2017, 09:59:04 pm
At the encouragement of OrBy, I'm starting a new thread with images from the new FLIR E95.

So far the camera has been pretty fantastic. The images are impressive. But so are the aspects of the camera that you don't see here - the touch screen is finally responsive; also, the screen is now bright enough to really show the detail of the live image; the laser focus is fast and gets it right most of the time.

I'll try to post more images soon. Or let me know if there's something you want to see and I'll do my best. So here's a few pics...

thank you for the images. they are interesting.

did anyone noted problems with the "FLIR0748.jpg"?
Flir Tools just show a cross symbol and -40 because the Sky was lower.
i cant calculate some of the lower raw values because the given Planck Values result a overflow while calculation.

Joe-C, very cool reprocessing of image 0748. The sky is almost always at -40 on my FLIR cameras. If I need a little more color detail in an outdoor image, I adjust the level/span to discount the influence of the the cold sky. Probably just too cold that day, haha.

Here's a few more images from the E95, raw from the camera with no MSX. The first is of beer cans being filled at my favorite local brewery Pale Fire (great Nabokov reference too). The next is a hot connection at a power substation. The third is a trio of heat pumps at an apartment complex.

I've also added some new images to our FLIR E95 page (https://www.ivytools.com/FLIR-E95-Thermal-Camera-78502-0301-p/flir-e95.htm) at Ivy Tools.

I have some video of the laptop that I'll try to get posted soon as well. Shows thermal pattern from startup, through heavy load, and into shutdown.

Here's one of those images processed with my FLIR upscale script. Original on the right.

How come the raw images are 640x480 ? The camera specs say 464 x 348 resolution.

More details of this script please?

That is a very substantial and impressive improvement in image quality. Like others, I would be very interested to know how you achieve it.

At present I use a variety of tools (mostly, I admit, a very old version of Paint Shop Pro) to sharpen, adjust contrast and whatnot. Whilst it may be that your methods are not directly applicable to my situation - I mostly use a Therm-App imager, and then only to make pretty pictures - I'm keen to learn any new techniques that I might be able to adapt.

I am still curious. The user manual is vague and says something along "Presentation" lines when mentioning 640x480. It would be a shame if the Raw image is scaled internally. It is not Raw image then, no matter how pretty it is looking.

Still working on it. I'll post later this week. It involves waifu2x.

Ah, yes - waifu2x (http://waifu2x.udp.jp/) - what a fabulous resource. EncryptedEddy (https://www.flickr.com/photos/91500523@N06/) introduced me to that on the Flickr Therm-App group (https://www.flickr.com/groups/therm-app-users/) and I have used it many times since, but usually for line drawings and photos rather than thermal images. I wait with interest to learn more when you're ready.

Yes I have played a bit with waifu2x-caffe but never encountered such visible improvements. I look forward to seeing how your using it!

The b looks really amazing. You managed to increase resolution and get rid of all the noise.

I am really excited the full process once you post it, I will definitely try it with my low resolution sensor as well to see what is possible.

I spent a bit more time playing with the waifu2x GUI this weekend and only managed to make things look the same or worse. Here is hoping that eg14 does not forget to let the secret sauce out. ;)
