G'day.
I bought a defective MSA Evolution 5200 from Ebay. Description said, image stays gray most of the times.
Had this issue before with a IIG thermal imager, freed the shutter and it just worked fine.
I tested the MSA, and whenever I switch it on, the shutter seems to be stuck, when I hit the unit, image comes up. Sometimes the shutter "wants" to close, and freezes the given image, so there is a "ghost image", hope you know what I mean...
I disassambled the MSA today, but can't find a way to the shutter. A label on the side of the unit says "Indigo Core", I found some info on the indigo cores, but I am pretty sure, disassembly to the shutter motor is very delicate...
Maybe some of you have a good idea?
Best regards
Henning

I just looked up the PCB Part no., and found this:

Looks like I can remove the front aluminium cover without damaging everything.
The shape of the shutter confirms me, since some times the lower left corner is „blind“.

I've got quite a few MSA 5000s to extract it's Photon core, sadly, none of them have a working shutter :palm:
Seems the mechanical life in those old cores just ran out.
Looks like I can remove the front aluminium cover without damaging everything.
Sure, It's not risky.

the issue is the shutter actuator actually wears out or breaks from use, and it's annoying.

Thats bad to hear…
Any idea to fix this? What exactly wears out, the bearings, the motor?
Is it really a motor or more a magnet or servo?
Won‘t take it apart before there is a possible solution… think a bit of oil wont fix the issue?

It's a motor with a small gearbox. Usually the gear breaks.

I found a shutter on aliexpress. Any experiences with this?
