Infiray P2 Application
« on: November 05, 2022, 11:37:12 am »
The P2 for android is an amazing device together with it's app on android, but it's location data requests are not.
Are there any alternatives to the android P2 app that work well?
(Photo is a bad attempt at writing "why?" with water)

Are there any alternatives to the android P2 app that work well?
I have Victor 328B and Infiray P2 Pro (just purchased not yet received), I have downloaded many Android apps for cameras that seem to be based on Infiray Tiny1-B Micro LWIR Thermal Module and all are interchangeable, I made a list of features to decide which apps I will keep on my phone.
For me the best ones are:
  • UNI-T Thermal Mobile for it's general set of features and post processing capabilities
  • TOPDON TC001 for it's temperature monitoring and is the only visor in which I managed to fit the camera and thermal image on PIP
  • Infiray P2 Pro because is the official one

There are more alternatives? is hard to get some of them because not all are in the Google Play store and they must be requested to the store selling the camera.

Picked up the TOPDON TC001 yesterday to check out the insulation in my new build.

Pretty good. The app works well.

They had a £30 off voucher last night on UK Amazon https://amzn.to/3W8oJ5R

Tempted to get the P2 though. Better price, same spec?

Thank you! Much appreciated.
I'm trying to figure out how to get the data stream to use on my own app or in windows.
I want to use the opportunity we have at the moment to bang out code with chatgpt...since I dont really know android app development
:)

I've had a play with the TOPDON TC001 and Infiray P2 app. They each have their pros and cons:

Infiray P2:
Pros:
* Works reliably,
* Performance seems better? (Qualitative assessment)
Cons:
* Heavy JPEG compression artifacts on saved images,
* Videos are corrupted. I just get a mess of horizontal lines.

TOPDON TC001:
Pros:
* Saved images are good quality,
* Video recording works.
Cons:
* Camera stops working at random intervals. Sometimes a few seconds, sometimes a few minutes,
* The images and videos are saved to a peculiar location in the phone's file system that is not visible to the stock android file browser app, nor the stock gallery app. The only way to get the files off is by sharing from inside the TOPDON app gallery, or navigating to /storage/emulated/0/Android/data/com.topdon.tc001/files/Pictures/ TC001 when the phone is mounted via USB.

Bonus mention:

InfiRay:
Cons:
* Won't install off the play store. Downloads but fails for mysterious reasons.

Both apps assume exclusive access to the camera hardware. When switching between them you must force-stop both of them before choosing which one to start. A little annoying, but it wouldn't be a problem if one app ticked all boxes.

I've used the Infiray P2 and TOPDON TC0001 apps for the past few days and much prefer the Topdon app. It doesn't hang consistently when I open it like the P2 all after a while (requires restart to fix), and records video at a noticeably higher frame rate. I also like being able to disable the automatic recalibration, to save wear on the shutter. For casual examination it's fine.

Both have annoying bugs. Infiray hanging on startup. Both not handling different screen aspect ratios and cutting off the image (topdon) or pushing the UI off the bottom (Infiray).

Topdon storing files in a basically inaccessible directory on Android 11 makes it extremely tedious to export photos and videos.

I'm hoping someone here will link to the UNI-T app because it's not on the Play Store not linked from their website that I can see.

The Uni-T app is present on the Play store and stated as for the UTI-720M and UTI-721M (equiv to P2 Pro) but I cannot get it to recognise my P2 Pro.

The App is named “Thermal Mobile” and I found it by searching for “Uni-T”

The USB VID and PID appear to dictate compatibility between cameras and Apps.

Fraser

That's the same way we broke all the Argus4 PC software !
VID = Vendor ID
PID = Product ID

The device presents the VID/PID, the PC/phone needs to have the matching USB driver and the software then needs to consider that an 'acceptable' USB driver.

Depending on the device it may be possible to edit the VID/PID.

BTW for just recording the video from the P2 Pro there's a beta app nExt Camera for Android that's great. It's for recording USB cameras. Records at the full 25 FPS frame rate, supports zoom, works well on Android 11 and even on my older Android 8 phone (where the thermal apps get really choppy in the video recording). I was able to easily run this and another background video recorder to have dual streams of the thermal and normal phone camera, with no choppiness in the recordings. Supports x.264 and x.265 encoding, with settable bitrate. Runs even when the phone screen is off, saving power if you need to watch something for a while. Allows using CUBE 3D LUT files, e.g. the common ironbow (attached below). It could still use some improvements (e.g. recording audio through the phone's mic) and I'll see if the developer can address them. You CAN get the rotation correct, I found you need to enable its auto-rotate icon, turn the phone until the rotation matches what it sees, then disable the rotation icon in the app and from there on it will keep it correct no matter how you hold the phone.

EDIT: nExt Camera has added recording of audio from the phone's microphone(s). This is great for narrating a recording.

EDIT: Also I found it supports 1D cube files, making them a lot smaller. And I made an inverse grayscale cube if you like white cold in grayscale mode. Remove .txt, copy to your phone, then import in the app.

I've attached an ironbow.cube file (just remove the .txt) as I couldn't find one on the web.

Hi everybody:

I've just received the Infiray P2 Pro, and my only problem is that I cannot record audio at the same time I record thermal videos. Any suggestions/ideas?. Thanks in advance!.

Infiray P2:

Same here. Even though others are having no problems with it. Could this be a hardware combination? I get this mess of horizontal lines on my Google Pixel 4a. What phone are you using?

The most annoying fact is that I can't rotate the app interface, all photos are up side down which is really annoying. Any fix you guys found for this?
