I am new to thermal imaging instruments and have been gathering information. One thing I understand is FLIR acquired Extech at some point. I was considering the DM285 and then asked myself if I really needed a dedicated instrument. I came across the FLIR E4 and the process of liberating them. That is quite an interesting topic. I also came across a dedicated Extech imager, the IRC130. The specs look similar to the E4 and given that FLIR owns Extech, my question is does anyone know if the electronics of the Extech and the FLIR are the same? If they are, could an Extech IRC130 be liberated with the same steps used to liberate the FLIR E4?

Quick answer..... sorry no. The IRC130 has no similarity to the E4 electronics package.
The Extech unit is from the same stable as the FLIR TG series and uses the FLIR Lepton core. Paper based specification comparisons can be very misleading.
The E4 will greatly outperform it when upgraded to the E8+ specification.
