Just received HTI HT-301. What Android device should I get?
« on: November 08, 2019, 03:15:48 am »
First off, I had no idea how tiny these phone thermal imaging cameras are! Neat!

(I also had the naivete to believe HTI that they would be shipping from a "US location"... which last I checked that doesn't include Hong Kong.)

That aside, the HT-301 doesn't work at all with my go-to cheap Android phone, a BLU Studio M6 running Android 5 (<-- perhaps the reason). The phone recognizes and sends a few hundred mAh to the camera, but it won't display any image - including with ThermViewer.

So I'm off to Craigslist for an Android phone. What are some options for the most economical device that will afford me the full functionality of the camera?

A Samsung galaxy s7 should do the trick and you can pickup a used one for about 50-75USD. I don't have a HT-301 but I do own a Therm App 9hz and it works perfectly with my s7.

Thank you. Turned out my brother has an “old” S9+ he no longer needs, and I received an early birthday present today.

Needless to say, the HT-301 works great with it.

Can you make a video in the dark day with some animals in the range more then 100m? I want to buy HT-301 for wildlife exploration, but still wondering if it will do the job :)

When I have the opportunity, sure.

Though what difference if the video is captured in the dark or not?

'Dark day' may mean with no sunshine, so the only thermal contrast is from the animal body heat rather than the sun.

Exactly. When sun makes objects hot it is more difficult.
But doesn't matter. I already ordered
