Mystery thermal camera Germanium lens - anyone recognise it ?

<< < (2/2)

Refrigerator:
Looks like it had some hand written numbers on it, would most likely be a serial number.
Hand written serial no. means short production runs.
My guess would be some expensive, non-consumer thermal camera, possibly military, the lens was maybe surplus or NOS.

Seekonk:
I was doing some IR stuff years back at work and we bought a sapphire lens that cost thousands.  Seemed awful pricey for something that had bubbles in it. Years later I got the lens I bought at a surplus auction from the company in a box of stuff.  Never did find a use for it.

TurboTom:
Possibly might have been from one of those automotive night vision IR cams? I've got an autoliv NV3 "paperweight" cam here and the lens looks pretty similar.

Cheers,
Thomas

Refrigerator:
Put "Air-Spaced Achromatic Doublet" in google images, it comes up with a few similar looking lenses, also pictures of telescopes, which might suggest the lens could have come from a telescope ?

Fraser:
Thanks for all the suggestions folks  :-+
