Hello all,

I recently purchased a Flir ThermaCAM ex320 from eBay and found that the USB cable for transferring pictures to the computer is missing as well as the software CD.  I have searched high and low everywhere online (except here) hoping that someone here might have them and be willing to sell them to me.  If not, does anyone know where I might find them for sale? Also, does anyone know if these cables are proprietary to these imagers or can I use a similar product from another manufacturer (assuming there is one).

Thanks for any help in advance.

-Mike

Their download section requires a registration their site, but FLIR should have the software you need to download them, their legacy software collection for download isn't all encompassing, but it does go back a ways and I have seen downloads for ThermaCAM cameras.  As for the cable, are you sure the required one is proprietary?  My cameras have used Mini USB for file transfer even when the charging cable was proprietary.

Thanks, DaJMasta, for responding back.  I was told the cable was proprietary by someone who use to have this same imager years ago, although he wasn't 100% sure.  My hope is that it isn't proprietary and there is an alternative cable that will work with the imager.  I've attached a 2 page excerpt from the user manual that shows what type of connector cable is needed to connect the imager to the computer.  It's kind of generic in the description of the cable which might be why I'm having a hard time finding one.

Page 91 of the user manual details the computer cable pin-out. It uses a standard 8 pin mini DIN connector. You will need to make a cable by cutting the end off a USB cable and fitting the mini DIN connector according to the provided pin-out

I know of no source of a ready made cable as the camera is now obsolete.

This thread may be of interest. I carried out a repair on a FLIR E2 that is very similar to the Ex320.

Regarding software for analysis or reporting using images from the Ex320. FLIR Reporter and Researcher were used. Both were very expensive products and are no longer supported. You may be able to download a Demo version of the software from the FLIR legacy software archives. The software is sometimes available on the used market but remains expensive. You could try FLIR Tools and see if it recognises the Ex320 Radiometric JPG files. If it does, you are in luck as FLIR Tools is free to download and use  :-+

The USB data cable.....

Nothing special, just a USB cable with a Mini Din connector. There are no electronics or special parts beyond needing the correct Mini DIN connector. Use your cameras socket to confirm which Mini Din connector will fit it.

The USB data cable.....

That looks for all the world like a PS2 connector. I wonder if one of these would not work (combined with a standard usb cable).

https://www.ebay.com/itm/2-USB-Female-in-to-PS2-Male-Adapter-Converter-for-Computer-PC-Keyboard-Mouse-Fm/303917999578?hash=item46c2eca5da:g:qysAAOSwHPlWck3x

PS2 was the predecessor of USB, so it would not be unlogical if pinout was the same. The two pins that are unused in the standard PS2 are the RS232 pins on the EX320 (which are not needed for USB connection...)

Remark: PS2 connector is male version in attachment, Flir shows female side (camera side)

Thank you so much.  I just purchased one from ebay.  I get my imager a day after I get the plug.  My fingers are crossed.

Your welcome.

Don't forget to report back so future users of this forum with the same issue already now that a standard USB-A - PS2 cable is all they need.

Hi Dane.  Thank you for your comment.  I paid around $800.00 for the camera, which included two lenses (27mm/FOV 25d and 15mm/FOV 45d), power chord, 1 rechargeable battery and a pelican case.  I am on the look out for a dual bay battery charger and a telescopic lens as well.

_Wim_,

So if finally received the long awaited connector cable only to be discouraged by the fact that the usb connector cable didn't work.  I tried updating the drivers on my laptop (Windows 7) but all I continue to get is the usb has malfunctioned or is not recognized.  I just recently found a guy on ebay that was selling the proprietary chord (at least this is what he claims) for my particular camera.  I should be receiving it in a couple days and will be keeping my fingers crossed.

Hmmm, that is strange. The fact that Windows sees a device has been plugged in, normally means that the pinout is correct I think. When the pinout is not correct, I do not think you would see anything in Windows. To I would be temped to think it is still driver related, and not cable related.

Here are some other tips and tricks for this kind of error:

Do you have the possibility to test on a Windows 2000/XP machine (for example using VMWare). I had an older USB Floppy drive that gave a similar error in Windows 10, but running an XP virtual machine on the same Windows 10 host I could successfully use the floppy drive by connecting the USB device in VMWare to the virtual XP machine...

Old versions (windows 2000) of Windows can be downloaded here:

VMWare player can be downloaded for free for personal use:
