Recommendation for Thermal Camera for my Android phone
« on: September 30, 2024, 12:43:51 pm »
Hi guys, i'm from Brazil, and i'm in an urgent need of buying a thermal camera for my use case.

In the past i saw a UNI-T UTi720M at around R$2.399 or around U$443, my highest budget is R$2.500 or U$462. The problem is that its not feasible for us in Brazil anymore to buy these kind of equipments in Brazil through aliexpress.
So, i need to find it locally.
My requirements

256x192p (Pixes)
25Hz

Since i'll be using for my YouTube Channel and also for Board repairs. Also the website in which i need to buy is this one:
https://www.mercadolivre.com.br/

The camera which i saw last time and is now out of stock is this one

The Infiray P2 Pro with close-up lens is a good choice in terms of value for money. The Uni-T cameras use the same imaging core from Infiray but I cannot recommend UNI-T dongle cameras.

To save money, the Infiray P2 is a little cheaper or you can sometimes buy the P2 Pro without the macro lens and so remove that parts cost. The macro lens is useful fir very close imaging of small PCB components.

First of all thank you so much for the quick reply, since i'll be using just for board repair, the R$2500 should be a good bet right?

Sadly your country appears much more expensive than the UK for the P2 Pro with Macro lens, but if you cannot buy from overseas suppliers you are a bit stuck on that front. The P2 Pro with macro lens is a decent solution for PCB inspection and you will see in my review how it can easily be mounted on an arm or microscope base. I was pleasantly surprised by its performance.

Great to hear that you have made a decision on this purchase. You will be surprised at how small, yet capable, this camera is. If you buy a USB Type C extension cable, you have a thermal camera that can be easily aimed whist hand held and mounted on all manner of supporting structures, with the phone positioned where it works best for you. I presume you already own a mobile phone with a USB Type C port ?

Enjoy your purchase  :-+

Thanks again buddy, yes i do have a secondary phone specifically for that only.

In the past i used the Infiray T3 Pro but i had to send it back, that camera was amazing, 384x288p @25Hz a shame that its way more expensive now. Like the price literally doubled for Brazil.

Hey buddy the camera did arrive properly, and i loved it, the only thing i noticed, on the app screen the image is pretty smooth at 25Hz but recording is apparently at 15fps? shoudlnt it be 25Hz?(25fps)

That seems a bit slow. This can be caused by inadequate processor power in the Host Android phone. What phone are you using with the camera dongle ?

Ohhhhhh
i'm using a Redmi note 8, i do have another android phone with is a Blackview BV9300 Pro which has a Mediatek Helio P99 which is a combo of 2 x Cortex-A76 @2.2GHz + 6 x Cortex-A55 @ 2Ghz it also has 12GB LPDD4X @4266 MT/s with 256GB of UFS 3.1 iirc.
The problem is, that since this is a rugged phone it weights a ton (500 grams, half a kilo literally) and my Trypod doesnt support it because of the size and weight. Also since its water proof, the USB cover has a locking mechanism which prevents the camer to be connected

A Redmi Note 8 with its Snapdragon chipset should be more than powerful enough for recording from the P2 Pro. It would be worth using a USB extension cable to connect the P2 to your other phone to see if the issue is present on that phone as well. There have been cases in the past of dongle cameras not recording smooth video on some mobile phones due to minor differences in their operating systems that caused compatibility issues.
