Seek compact or compact XR

Anyone with a Seek compact or compact XR: I want to get one for use in looking for hot spots on PCBs.  Most of the boards I deal with are on the order of 12 in x 18 in, but I have had to deal with boards as large as 24 in x 14 in.  Attractive in most other regards, I fear the XR version would not work well for boards this large as I would have to be far away from the board to measure it.  Any comments regarding which version would be most appropriate?

Is there any difference in how close these two can focus?
