Post by: havaloc on June 24, 2024, 09:46:07 pm
https://www.thermal.com/seek-nano.html (https://www.thermal.com/seek-nano.html)

Nano 200
$149
200 x 150 Resolution
35° x 27° Field of View

Nano 300
$249
320 x 240 Resolution
57° x 42° Field of View

Slick marketing material, but reviews in the App Store give me pause

Probably a response to the Chinese brands since it's running at 25Hz, but what I see on their web site shows not such a great improvement.  Number one, they compare the lower resolution one with the ORIGINAL 2014 model.  Sure, that's an improvement, but what they show for the "Pro" is little changed from the original Pro as far as I can tell.  Their comparison images look like all they did was improve the focus.

This screen grab from their video looks so familiar.  That rough at 24 degrees F span is about normal:

Here is an image of nearly the same span off of my 2017 Compact on my phone.
Edit: To clarify, this image was made from the thermal data in a TIFF file written by the Seek Apk and read by my tiff reading program which has the same user interface as my Seek camera program--that's why the buttons, etc. are the same as in the following images.

And here it is from my software:

And again with averaging on:

Looks like the same style of core they used in the Scan but packaged in a nice skin-tight case.  Nice price & I appreciate the 25Hz frame rate but I don't want one unless I have all the control commands like I have for the "Compacts". :~)  No mention of max sensing temperature...

Wonder if we will get access to radiometric data or will it just be jpeg images from these devices.

They're gonna be Mosaic Cores, just with a shrunken housing. If these also support a UVC fallback mode, then they're gonna be printing money
I'm reaching out to them to see if I can get a loaner unit to do a direct shootout with sci grade cal ref.
