Title: Seek thermal workarounds
Post by: tszaboo on October 09, 2023, 11:54:43 am
I have a Seek compact pro at work that I'm using for documentation.
So the app stopped completely working, we cannot get it to work on several phones.
I plugged it to my PC, shows up as PIR324 thermal camera, so it works.
Downloaded Seek Scan, launched it. The camera starts "clicking" so it's doing it's calibration, but no image on the PC.
Honestly, I'm kinda pissed off that this camera was bought in the first place, because I wanted to buy a proper one. Then one engineer decides to disregard due process and gets this toy, so we are screwed. "I thought you guys already have a thermal camera"

What sort of third party apps there are to use it, or does anyone know a workaround for this?

Opportunity knocks…… “the camera is ‘dead’…… we need a new camera and this time we need one that is reliable”  ;D

Yeah, though in the meantime I still have a report to be finished.
For now I glued a thermocouple to the DUT part, let's hope that's enough.

No great help, but I have had a Seek thermal Pro since it was first released and it still works perfectly with iPhone(s) and iPad Pro.
It has a lightning connector and I am happy to say that Apple’s (new?) lightning to USB-C connector works perfectly with newer iPads

Just FYI all, I emailed Seek support the same time that OP was written, from my work email, and there has been no communication, other than "we received your mail, and you have a ticket".

Did you remove any protective packaging stickers from the lense?

They have lists of phones that are compatible or incompatible, and an email address to contact if yours isn't on the list. https://support.thermal.com/hc/en-us/articles/204641029-Compact-Series-Phone-Compatibility. No idea, multiple people used this tool.

My phone isn't on the list, and it was working a few weeks before.

Well if they used it, then the lense isn't blocked by a sticker anymore.

I haven't tried it yet, but there's SeekOFix https://www.eevblog.com/forum/thermal-imaging/seekofix-new-windows-software-for-seekthermal/ (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/thermal-imaging/seekofix-new-windows-software-for-seekthermal/)

why seek scan?
Just tested now on Compact Pro
Camera clicking like is running but no image, in setting on camera I can see serial number so it is somehow detected.
Seek Simple Viewer instead works fine.
