How to get leonardo DRS DVE-ultralite thermal camera to work
« on: October 25, 2023, 06:56:13 am »
Hi:)
I have an DVE-ultralite camera i want to get working with analog video output.   Does anybody have an pinout diagram for the 37pin conector on the back ?

And this camera is 24v right?

How kan i tell what pins are 24v + and - in.  And analog video output out ?

It will be easier to identify pins with pictures from the powerboard. GND will be easy to identify. +24V will be a little bit harder. Check fir fuses, big caps or power regulators on the board.

Hi,

looks like your camera is based on the DRS UC640-17LW.
I recognized some boards on your pictures.
I cant help you with the 24V dcdc board, my camera doesnt have that...
But you should be able, to connect directly to the 20pin connector on the other board. VCC 3.6-9V
I have attached some pictures.

The caps on PCB have a 227C marking, which means max 16V. I wouldn’t connect 24V there. Looks more like a 12V input.

Can be also a 24V input and the 16V caps are after a voltage regulator. The other side looks promising, because it looks like some mosfets are there. Maybe @Fraser has an idea?

Hi,
it looks like the camera module was slightly modified for the DVE system. The 2 larger boards seem to be for the dve system, and the 2 smaller boards are the actual camera processor and detector bias boards.
The 20pin connector should be on the smaller board in the middle of the stack. Unless its not populated, i see the shutter control was also modified... the cable normally goes directly to the 2pin connector...
I attached 2 pictures, to show you what board the 20pin connector is on and also how the ffc shutter is wired in my camera...
There might be changes to the firmware aswell, so it might not work. This camera was intended to be mounted on a vehicle, so it might be protected in some form or need a controller box to work... good luck

I dont see that 20 pin conector ,  i only found an 20pin conector for flat wires on the smaller boards.  Maybe that conector will work ?

well...i didnt expect that...
I mean, your Processor board looks exactly like mine.
But your Power board layout is different the Placement doesnt even exist...but there is a large 80Pin connector which i dont have...
The small 40pin connector only has digital video, so vcc and analog video might be on the 80pin connector...
Regarding the 2 larger boards, i have no idea... that flat connector could be anything... :-/
The camera should work completely without these 2 boards. (If you rewire your Shutter)
My guess is, that they didnt use the analog video feature of the camera at all but generated (maybe even colorized?) analog video from the cameras digital video out.
That would atleast explain why the 40pin digital video connector is also used...
because the camera only supports Black hot/white hot on analog out natively...
My suggestion is try to find the vcc and gnd and probe with an oscilloscope for an analog video output if there is one...
Maybe someone else here knows more or has a better idea.
Hope you get this camera working :-)

I looked at the wires in the back of the conector , and i found one red and black wire who was soldered together so each wire used 2 conector pins.  I took an chance and conected this wires to an 12v battery.

And the thermal shutter started to work, so i think the camera is working. Ore maybe not if it needs 24v

Now i need to find the video out of all the wires

Pin 16 is 24-40V external pwr in, pin 23 is external power return.
Pin 1 is RS170 out, Pin 2 is RS170 out return (?)

Can't really divulge much more.

@dennis1573 is right, there is a ton of other signals, but I'm not sure which ones (if any) are required to get the RS170 working.

Good luck.
