Title: Thermal imaging lens porn site
Post by: Ultrapurple on June 03, 2020, 02:13:55 pm
That got your attention!

Actually, I just received a link from Ophir announcing their new website (https://www.ophiropt.com/infrared/) and it has a wide range of lenses for LW, MW and SWIR, with images and data to make one think "If only I was on a top-class footballer's pay I might be able to save up for one of those".

I have no connection with Ophir.

Yes, clickbait perhaps - but at least I admitted it in my first few words and I don't stand to gain anything whether or not you choose to look at the site.

The link Ophir sent me contained a whole load of tracking info; I stripped this out of the link I posted. It was part of a mass-mailing - they didn't write to me specially.

I rather like seeing today's state of the art stuff (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/thermal-imaging/cameras-lenses-at-dsei-defence-show/msg2685177/), if only because there is a small chance we'll see some of it trickling down to hobbyist price ranges in a few decades. There is no way, for example, I'd have been able to afford a fire service thermal camera when they were first introduced, yet now I own several. Others on this forum probably have similar stories.

So, clickbait - yes, perhaps, but at least it's firmly on-topic and well-intentioned.

Sweet. I managed to snag a motorized focus Ophir lens from eBay some time ago, it is a very high quality lens. They make some nice stuff.

Their filter doesn't appear to be working well. I tried to filter for 25µm and 640x480 and it gave me a list of all their lenses, most of which don't cover the 20mm image circle. I use their catalog as a reference for fov a lot and it doesn't really help like this :(
