The new FLIR C5 has been released :)

For those interested, FLIR just contacted me to advise that the new C5 model has been released.
At last FLIR have put a 160 x 120 pixel Lepton in that camera format...... long overdue in my opinion.
It is a pity that a QVGA Lepton is not available for the C5 but we must accept that miniature cores limitations I suppose.

Interesting ..... the UK price for the C5 is uncharacteristically low compared to the US price !

My UK local agent claims FLIR have deliberately kept the price increase over the older C3 model low. An interesting strategy from FLIR. Are they feeling the pressure from competitors products I wonder ?

Absolutely ! Competition is good and we are seeing an ‘explosion’ in thermal camera production in China due to the Corona Virus crisis. This could lead to much more choice for consumers when it comes to picking a budget thermal camera This is what I wanted to see with Seek Thermal’s introduction of a core to compete with the Lepton and maybe other FLIR cores.

I am still very impressed with the QVGA Seek Thermal Reveal PRO. The high frame rate model cost me £420 and was brand new. I bought a used <9fps Reveal Pro in brand new condition for £265. You can certainly get a decent budget thermal camera at an affordable price these days This market is moving very quickly now with Seek Thermal struggling to keep up with World Demand for their OEM cores. I can see Chinese core’s becoming more available and affordable as well, especially as China wants to use >9fps in many products and has been struggling to obtain enough Seek cores recently.

I still claim that a CAT S61 is a better idea. it has the same lepton, better visible camera, more connectivity options 3rd party apps, better ratings... and it is cheaper. Even if you only use it as a thermal camera and not a hone, it is superior.

Although the Seek has 4X the pixels at a lower price than FLIR, Seek should still up their game. They should add a visible light camera for fusion, add Wifi connectivity, and improve the measurement accuracy. Also keep the price the same (at $600 for the Reveal). (Not asking for much).

...of course they do. Literally a week after I bought the Seek.     Though in its defense, the Seek is still higher resolution.

Ok, Seek Shot Pro, more specifically.
Does it save the 3-page TIFF file with temperatures ?

Some may argue that Fusion is less important as you get to QVGA and beyond - it's certainly a different ball-game from 60x80 sensors, as this 384x288 image from 2015 shows.
