Who here use a outdoor Outdoor Bi spectrum IP Cam?
« on: May 07, 2020, 06:04:12 pm »
Hi
Who here use a outdoor Outdoor Bi spectrum IP Cam?
Over a longer Time we would install a IP Cam but without IR because its stealth.  ;D
There are some "cheap" Low Resolution one from a big Chinese Company. Well a "160 × 120" Thermal Resolution sound way to small even the get stretched on double Size.  ::)
So with that Resolution its possible to see if "Object" is a Humen or a Fox?

The size & type of objects that can be identified & differentiated will depend not only on the number of pixels but also on the field of view of the camera and the distance from the camera.

I have not used any kind of IP camera but I will provide a couple samples from a Seek CompactXR with 20 degree field of view and 206x156 pixel resolution.

First is of a cat at a distance of 15 meters.  The cat is at the very top; the dark spot is where a rabbit was earlier when the software zeroed out the background.

Next is a human with a dog at 30 meters

With a wider field of view (which most thermal cameras have) they will appear smaller and with fewer pixels there will be less detail as well.

The beauty of thermal cameras for surveillance is that you don't need to have any kind of light source illuminating the target area but there are still circumstances, such as hot summer days, when warm bodies might not stand out from the surroundings enough to be detected.
I am not opposed to exercise, unless it is an exercise in futility.

So I would say a short conclusion the thermal resolution is crap and even the have some "advanced" Optic, Thermal combination think even at night the could not bring enough highlight, contrast to detect some useful to differ between a Dog, Cat, Bagger,... and a Person.
