Xtherm T3Pro - UVC Support
« on: January 31, 2021, 09:28:04 am »
I recently purchased an Xtherm T3Pro, and despite their website indicating that they have an SDK for it, they have not (nor anyone in this forum) responded to several of my queries regarding an SDK, documentation, or sample code.

Fortunately, I've confirmed that the camera is UVC-compliant, and I have verified that I can connect to it via Windows, Linux, MacOS, iOS, and Android.

I had written a UVC viewing/filtering system on MacOS a few months ago, and was able to get this sensor to display/stream using an ironbow filter I threw together:

http://graphcomp.net/media/thermal_iron.mp4

I'm getting 384x292 at about 25hz.  My intension is to combine this with a stereo sensor that I have, create a 3D mesh with the thermal values mapped to the surface.

Unlikely that I'll be releasing my viewer as open source, but happy to discuss approaches if anyone else is having troubles getting support for this sensor.

I presume the ironbow filter was created on the viewer application you have, and that the camera by itself already has that palette-  That is neat that you were able to create that.

Alas, a little sad my Therm-Apps don't directly connect to PC(and a few years ago OPGAL apparently stopped proviging support / their own  SDK for them)- so I can only get an image via ADB wired|wireless /scrcpy(of which you've already seen ;) )

Here's hoping the company responds......

Thanks, Volter!

They did finally respond, and have sent me SDKs for Windows, Linux, and Android.
For MacOS, I'm using my own app via AVFramework to connect to UVC cameras.

Yes, the camera only provides a grayscale heatmap; I'm using my own Ironbow filter, as well as others I've developed. I'll be using "Hollywood" at this week's SBF - hope to see you there! :^)

I haven't written a Windows UVC app yet, but plan to; will share with you when I have it.

Opgal did apparently intend to offer a Windows driver for the Therm-App cameras but it never materialised. As they have since apparently stopped manufacturing the cameras I don't hold out much hope for other drivers ever appearing, unless someone clever reverse-engineers a driver by looking at the USB traffic.

It's a shame really. The Therm-App cameras were good - the 640x480 Pro especially so - but it's hard now to recommend buying even a secondhand one (unless the price is exceptionally good). Maybe I should have listened to those wise heads who said dongle cameras may be something of a dead end.
Rubber bands bridge the gap between WD40 and duct tape.

That's the beauty of UVC cameras - no special drivers needed, and supported by most webcam software.

Are you planning to release your software at all, open source or not?
