YouTube channel dedicated to thermal imaging technology & repair - sorry no.

I have been asked on numerous occasions if I would create a YouTube channel dedicated to the discussion of thermal imaging technology, its design and repair. I am fortunate to have accumulated a lot of specialist knowledge on the topic through my working life, friends in the industry and practical investigations of thermal imaging systems. I have reverse engineered the circuitry of many thermal imaging cameras as part of the repair process. Whilst I do not mind helping people with repairs to their thermal cameras, I do have to be careful to not breach any NDA’s and confidences. I respect the sensitivity associated with the whole thermal imaging topic, especially with regard to military usage and associated designs.

As readers of my past posts will be aware. I had to ‘retire’ early at the age of only 48 due to a virus induced chronic fatigue syndrome (M.E.) ever since stopping full time work I have looked for ways to stimulate the technical areas of my brain. I do that via electronic repairs and input to discussions on this forum. It has kept me sane ! Thanks EEVBlog Forum members ! I was head hunted by my old employer in 2022 to do some short term deployments and that was a great boost for me as I was being productive and had purpose again  :-+ I continue to do some very sporadic work for them but it is minimum wage stuff (sadly due to HR rules) on a Zero hours contract so I will not get rich any time soon :( It does exercise my brain and pay towards the increased cost of living though.

I have considered creating the requested specialist YouTube channel in the hope that it might prove popular and gain a decent following to earn me some pennies. I looked into the equipment that is needed and considered the format as I do not have any background in content production for YouTube. Upon looking at the financial side of things, I quickly realised that I am the wrong gender, wrong age and wrong topic to earn decent money ! If I were an attractive young lady, willing to flash my booty on YouTube shorts, I could easily get 10 Million views ! Alternatively, if I were an expert on playing the Fortune video game, I could bring in £90K a year by just doing videos on hints and tips !! But being an old codger wanting to create videos on a specialist topic, such as thermal imaging, I have no chance of gaining a decent income, or likely even recovering the investment in the required equipment :(

I watch the content produced by Alex at NorthridgeFIX and Sorin at his learning channel. I enjoy both but see that Alex is a very shrewd business man who has multiple income streams, of which YouTube videos is only one and he uses it to advertise his shop as a bonus. Sorin is the same age as me and we have much in common with our interest in electronics, except that I am a perfectionist !
I have recently seen his videos detailing how, through no fault of his own, his income from YoyTube has taken a nose dive. YouTube have accused him of artificially inflated viewing figures through the use of bots etc. This accusation, against which there is no appeal process, has effectively demonetised Sorin’s two YouTube channels :( His income has evaporated. He has highlighted that other content producers have suffered the same fate and channels that have been high quality and active for years are now effectively being shut down through accusations of invalid traffic. It would appear that some Algorithm at YouTube HQ is at fault. Interestingly, Sorin thinks it mainly targets learning and repair channels,

Well for me this put an end to the idea of creating content for YouTube. I have now completely abandoned the idea. Sorry to those who asked, I do need the income, but YouTube appears to be a non starter for me. Then again, if any of you are willing to watch a grumpy old git prance around in his underwear on a YouTube shorts video….I may have to resort to that for an income as it seems a popular video type at the moment  :-DD Oh damn, I am the wrong age and Gender for that !

I'm sorry to hear that, it seems unusual. The typical approach would be to offer your services as an independent consultant, with a commensurate hourly rate as a professional service provider. You would not want to get yourself hired as a part time employee on the payroll of another company (if indeed, that is what the arrangement has been). If you can operate as an independent consultant, you would be dealing more with purchasing and accounts departments and less with HR (a comparable situation would be if a company engages the services of a lawyer). I imagine you are aware of this, so there must be reasons.

Along similar lines, have you explored the possibility of offering your services as an expert witness in court? There could be all sorts of litigation that goes on around patents, intellectual property rights and restricted use in the thermal imaging area?

Without going into detail here, it is a complex situation as I work for my Country and HR rules the roost !

My specialist skill set is not thermal imaging related. Thermal imaging is just a hobby that came from my use of the technology.
