Anyone hear of ZEI brand modems ?
« on: December 10, 2024, 06:48:14 pm »
I found a nice old 1200 baud external modem, it looks like the usual Hayes smart modem clone, complete with removable front panel to access a bunch of DIP switches.
Thing is, there is nothing popping up for ZEI brand modems. Anyone ever heard of these?
Hey it was 8$ with power supply. It looks like a metal badge is missing on the power supply, so there's no info to be had there.

Thanks but I think this modem predates that company. No big deal. Another trinket to put on display. It looks new though, that's what jumped out at me, I mean there's not even a scratch.

Any clues on the PCB itself?

The same extruded aluminum frame was used by other brands like Supra and Zoom.

That looks like a Taiwanese modem I used to see, back in the days when things like that were actually made in Taiwan, with a variety of different names on the front. I don't know who made it. You might find a name on the PCB that is its actual OEM.

Yeah I wanted to take it apart but... the warranty void stickers are intact, all three of them. It really looks new.
There is no logic here, it's just a hobby.  :-DD

Does the board not just slide out with the front panel removed?

No, there is at least one standoff that is screwed in from the bottom and passes through the PCB.  You can see it in the first photo.
