You can always read the magnetic signal using an oscilloscope, and analyze the analog signal using more advanced software means, even redrawing the peaks by hand if necessary.

It's a good post, although I think the bit about the signal strength increasing linearly with rotation speed is wrong. It increases with the square of rotation speed, doesn't it?

I don't think so. If B is a changing magnetic field and U the voltage induced in the read head's coil, U ~ dB/dt. And dB/dt should be proportional to the linear velocity of the disk track, and hence to the rotation speed?

I did just order a greaseweazle, hoping to recover some floppies & such ... fascinating device from what little I've read.

I hope these guys are in the box with it ...
