Are onboard RAM words tested on Classic II P.O.S.T?

If they are not is there a software that tests all onboard RAM words? Compatible with Mac OS7.

Yes. You will notice that when you add more RAM, POST takes longer. Can't remember what happens if the test fails though.

you get a normal boot "beep" if POST succeeds. or no sound if it fails. or sometimes the broken glass sound.

All classic Macs perform basic RAM tests on startup. The startup chime is the result of a successful POST.

The failure sound, the "chimes of death", varies by model.

(To this day, I think the startup chime on the NuBus Power Macs, the 6100/7100/8100, is the coolest one they ever used. 00:17 in the video. That and the Twentieth Anniversary Mac, 00:30.)

and on recent machines, that have no beep at startup, the post succeeds if and only if the screen backlight goes on.

No, the startup chime is merely disabled by default on newer Macs. The video above includes the new startup chime on the latest Macs.

What they do lack is error beep codes if POST fails.
