Has anyone, ever, in the history of computing, replaced the pressure pad inside the mechanism?

I have on an old HP 8" drive, but not a 5.25" .

Nope. Although granted I haven't used a single sided 5.25" drive since the Osborne 1 was only completely obsolete rather than vintage.
